Examination Policy and Guidelines

Examinations are an essential part of the learning process, designed to evaluate students’ understanding, skills, and progress. At Standard English School, we follow a structured and fair examination system to ensure holistic assessment.
Types of Examinations

Periodic Test 1 (PT 1)
- Conducted periodically to assess continuous learning and participation.
- Includes quizzes, assignments, class tests, and project work.
- Helps track day-to-day academic progress.

Half Yearly (SAs)
- Conducted at the end of each term to evaluate cumulative learning.
- Includes written exams, oral tests, and practical evaluations where applicable.

Periodic Test 2 (PT 2)
- Short tests conducted after completing specific units or chapters in the syllabus.

Annual Examination
- Held at the end of the academic year.
- Covers the entire syllabus and serves as the final evaluation for promotion to the next grade.
Examination Schedule
- Half Yearly Examination: Conducted in the middle of the academic session (usually August/ September).
- Pre-Annual Examination (For Class 10): Conducted approximately two months before the Annual Examination.
- Annual Examination: Held in February/ March.
A detailed timetable will be provided well in advance of each examination.
Examination Rules and Conduct
- Students must arrive at the examination hall at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time.
- Carry only the required materials (pens, pencils, erasers, geometry box, etc.). Bags, mobile phones, and unauthorized materials are not allowed.
- Silence must be maintained at all times during the examination.
- Any form of malpractice or cheating will result in strict disciplinary action, including possible cancellation of the exam.
- Students are not allowed to leave the examination hall before the allotted time without the invigilator’s permission.
Grading and Evaluation
- Marks will be assigned based on accuracy, presentation, and effort.
- Teachers will evaluate answer sheets impartially and provide constructive feedback.
- Final grades will be calculated considering performance in all assessments and examinations throughout the year.
Promotion Criteria
- Students must achieve a minimum of 40% marks in each subject to pass.
- Consistent attendance and performance in all formative and summative assessments will be considered.
- Students failing to meet the criteria in more than two subjects may be required to attend remedial classes or repeat the grade.
Parental Involvement
- Parents are encouraged to monitor their child’s preparation and progress during the examination period.
- Open communication with teachers is recommended to address any academic concerns.
- Results will be shared during Parent-Teacher Meetings after each term.
Special Provisions
- Students with valid medical or personal reasons for missing an exam must provide prior notice or submit a medical certificate.
- Retests may be arranged at the discretion of the principal.
Important Note
Examinations are not just about grades but also about learning and growth. Students are encouraged to focus on understanding concepts, improving skills, and learning from their mistakes.
